Announcing the news on their official website, Feyenoord were keen to extend the deal of highly rated defender Van Beek following interest from a number of foreign clubs during the summer. The players current deal was due to expire in 2018, but now both Sven and Feyenoord can focus on football following a quick resolution to contract talks.

A foot injury has side-lined Sven for the whole of the current campaign so far, but he is currently in rehab and expected to make his long awaited comeback soon. Sven, who is a product of the Feyenoord academy, stated his delight at agreeing terms.

He told the official website, “The club is showing a lot of confidence in me with this contract extension, which makes me feel great. It also gives me the chance to work on my recovery without feeling stressed. I have made a lot of progress recently. For instance, I’m training outside again. I’m improving every day and working hard to get back with the group soon.”

Feyenoord Technical Director, Martin van Geel, responded to the news by backing Van Beek to become one of the leading stars of the Eredivisie once again, saying “Sven has had a tough year up to now, but we are confident he will return to his old level in the short term.” He continued, “Sven is a real Feyenoord lad, a player we developed and who has already shown his quality at the highest level. We are happy to have been able to tie a lad like that down for a bit longer.”

Van Beek will be hoping to make his return to action soon as Feyenoord push for a domestic double of the Eredivisie and KNVB Beker this season.
