Reports on Monday in Netherlands suggested Ajax were close to agreeing a loan deal for the 21-year-0ld Dutchman, as Frank de Boer looks to strengthen his wide positions.
However they will now face competition for John, as Dutch daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad report that both Liverpool, and Swansea will also look to sign the winger on loan
Neither Premier League side is believed to have made an offer to Benfica yet, while Ajax have upped their inituial loan offer to €600,000 according to A Bola in Portugal.
A stumbling block for Ajax may be John’s wages, with Benfica wanting any club to take over 100% of what the player earns, something which is not an option for the Dutch side.
John is struggling for first team football in Portugal, making only seven appearances so far this season, and will look to leave Benfica in an attempt to work his way into Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad.
