Netherlands chances of reaching the World Cup took a huge blow on Saturday evening with Sweden running out 8-0 winners over Luxembourg.

With Sweden having a much better goal difference and a three-point lead on Netherlands going into Saturday’s games, Oranje were hoping that Luxembourg would be able to do them a massive favour. However, Sweden easily hammered the minnows 8-0 which leaves Netherlands needing a miracle to finish second in the group and take a potential play off spot.

Sweden’s goal difference is now +19 while Netherlands is +5. An 8-0 win over Belarus later on Saturday would leave Netherlands needing to beat Sweden at least 3-0 in Amsterdam on Tuesday to take second spot.

Sadly it is looking more and more likely that Netherlands will not be in Russia next year, which would be another failure for the KNVB.
