Dusan Tadic was furious after Ajax’s 4-4 draw at Chelsea on Tuesday evening. Ajax were comfortable until two Ajax players saw red at the same time.

Ajax were leading 4-2 but Daley Blind and Joel Veltman were then shown red cards at the same time, with the latter also conceding a penalty. Chelsea then claimed a 4-4 draw against the nine-men.
After the match, a clearly furious Dusan Tadic took aim at referee Gianluca Rocchi. He told Veronica, “We must be furious about this. This is not possible.
“It is impossible for anyone to destroy our match in this way. We had everything under control. I just don’t understand that he gives red twice in one action. I don’t understand ….Whether I have ever experienced this? No never. I still have to check it, but I don’t even agree: To give red twice in the same action.”
Tadic believes Ajax would have won if not for the referee, “After those two red cards, it became a completely different game. We can be proud of ourselves. It was just not possible to play football with nine men. We had everything in our hands, were much better … We should have won tonight.”
As a neutral, I understand the growing frustration being directed at the referee. Ajax were fantastic, up until that crazy sequence of events.
I understand his frustration and then some.
Clearly, the two red cards at the same time is what ended up being the deciding factor, Veltman’s red card was unbeliveable given the circumstances. An exciting and frustrating game to watch as an Ajax fan.
Ajax have a habit of picking up soft yellow cards in games. Need to get that out of their game.
If Blind and Veltman had been more careful, they would not have had first yellow cards and somebody most of match liable to be sent off if second bookable offences.
Was a crazy sequence for two sending offs and pen. Tadic may be furious but Blind and Veltman were careless in picking up early yellows.
Ajax defence is already vulnerable without two yellow cards.
Madness madness.
But the 9 left who stood firm in the Battle of Stamford Bridge deserve every praise.
Fantastic performance.
Veltman is a complete liability, people should not be surprised by his actions. He’s been taking stupid yellow cards for years and years and pointlessly arguing with refs with no common sense or understanding as to game situations or management.
In a way this may be a blessing in disguise. If Schuurs performs well in the next UCL competition it will give Ten Hag something to think about as he could well be an upgrade on Veltman.
