The 24-year-old’s contract with Heracles ends in the summer and he has already agreed a three-year deal to join Groningen, pending a medical which will take place next week.

Technical manager Peter Jeltema said on the signing, “Now his contract expires at Heracles after this season – and Mike is a free transfer – for us this was the ideal time to enter into conversation with him. We are pleased that we have managed to convince him to opt for FC Groningen.”

Te Wierik, who can play at either in the centre or the right side of defence, has made 140 league appearances for Heracles.
