Henk ten Cate has stated it would be an honour to be approached by the KNVB to take on the Netherlands national team job.

On Sunday morning, Voetbal International presented Kees Jansma stated that Ten Cate was the players choice to be the new head coach of the Netherlands.

The 65-year-old then appeared on Studio Voetbal and was asked about the rumours, “If it is indeed the case, then it is very honourable. I think the players are the best frame of reference. It’s fun and totally unexpected. To be honest, I am very surprised that I have apparently come into the picture. “

Ten Cate nearly became Oranje coach three years ago but the job was eventually given to Dick Advocaat, “I may have thought about it, but I have not drawn any conclusions from it. If I have the feeling that they have an appreciation and that they think it should be me, then you can talk about it. It’s the most honourable job there is.”

Ten Cate’s last job was head coach of Al-Ittihad but that ended last February.
