Feyenoord’s horrible run of form continued on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at De Kuip by Roda JC.

roda jc fetAfter seven straight league defeats Feyenoord appointed Dick Advocaat as an adviser earlier this week to try and find a solution to their issues. A change in the line-up came for the game with Roda JC as Tonny Vilhena dropped to the bench and Renato Tapia started alongside Karim El Ahmadi in the centre of midfield.

No visible improvement could be seen in Feyenoord’s play early in the first half as they failed to break down a rigid Roda JC defence despite a lot of possession. However, a minute before the break Feyenoord led with Dirk Kuyt, who had earlier tested Benjamin van Leer twice, heading in a free kick. It was the veteran’s 100th goal for the club.

The goal should have breathed life into Feyenoord but they decided to sit back in the second half and Roda JC grew in confidence. Eventually substitute Maecky Ngombo drew the away side level, and on balance of play it was thoroughly deserved.

Feyenoord pushed late on for a winner, but Anass Achabar fired into the side netting and Eljero Elia somehow smashed the underside of the bar from point blank range.

Another poor result for Feyenoord who now sit 7th in the table, while Roda JC remain 14th.
