Born in Rotterdam, Floranus was drafted into the excellent Sparta Rotterdam academy and just days before he turned 17 he made his first-team debut in the Eerste Divisie against FC Eindhoven in August 2015.

Sparta gained promotion during the 2015/16 season and Floranus was a regular in the Dutch top flight for the last two season, making 49 appearances, and contributing three assists. Sparta was relegated last season, but Floranus impressed Heerenveen, who snapped up the youngster to replace Denzel Dumfries, who departed for PSV Eindhoven.

Floranus is currently a Netherlands U20 international, having represented his country at every youth level since the U15’s.

Style of Play

Floranus is a versatile full-back who can be deployed on either wing or in the centre of defence, but he sees his future as a right-back at Heerenveen.

The 19-year-old is attack-minded and is a similar type of player to both Jetro Willems and Denzel Dumfries, who both came through the Sparta youth academy.

Floranus is an aggressive tackler with plenty of pace and energy to burst up and down the wing. The area, Floranus will look to improve this season is his crossing and final ball, with three assists in 49 league games not a great return for an attacking full-back.

What to expect from Floranus this season

Floranus has seen Dumfries move from Sparta to Heerenveen and then PSV in the space of 12 months and he will not only be looking to replace the right-back but emulate him by making a name for himself in Friesland.

Floranus had a tough campaign with Sparta last season but he will now be fighting for a place in Europe, rather than at the bottom of the table. The youngster will be looking to thrive at the Abe Lenstra Stadion and live up to his billing as one of the top young full-backs in Dutch football.
