A Morten Thorsby double secured a 2-1 victory for Heerenveen at ADO Den Haag, who are still looking for their first point of the season.

Two defeats in their opening two matches has seen the pressure already rise on ADO Den Haag and coach Alfons Groenendijk. New signing Nasser El Khayati went straight into the starting line-up but the winger didn’t have the desired impact as Heerenveen dominated a goalless first half in the Kyocera Stadion.

Just before the hour mark, Heerenveen got the lead they deserved with Thorsby sliding a perfect Denzel Dumfries cross into the net. Eight minutes later the duo combined again with Dumfries cutting the ball back for Thorsby to fire in his fourth goal of the season.

ADO Den Haag pulled one back as Bjorn Johnsen bundled a corner into the net with twelve minutes to go but despite some heavy pressure towards the end, Heerenveen held on for the victory.
