With Netherlands already assured of their place at the World Cup, a number of players still have the opportunity to impress Van Gaal over the next seven months.
The Dutch coach stated today, ahead of the tie with Hungary on Friday, that only Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie, and Kevin Strootman are definitely in his squad.
Van Gaal said, “Outside Robben, Van Persie, and Strootman, everyone should still prove (themselves) to get a ticket to Brazil and they know damn well,
These are all test matches. There are plenty of challenges for the players, for me and the staff to prepare for these competitions and go.
“We are highly motivated and passionate. The people also see that, and it shows given the fact that we play Friday in a sold out stadium.
Players like Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, and Klaas jan Huntelaar, who all would have been assured of a place a year ago will now have to prove their fitness and worth to make it to Brazil.
