krul 2The Dutchman suffered the injury during the 3-0 defeat to Everton on Tuesday night, and is set to miss the clashes against Southampton, Manchester United, and Stoke City.

It will be a huge blow for Krul, who was hoping to use the games between now and the end of the season to stake his claim to be part of Louis van Gaal’s World Cup squad. The 25-year-old was a surprise exclusion from the recent friendly match with France, as Jasper Cillessen, Jeroen Zoet, and Michael Vorm were given a call up.

In other news at Newcastle, midfielder Vurnon Anita has urged the club to sign fellow Dutchman Luuk de Jong on a permanent deal.

Anita told the Northern Echo, “I think Luuk wants to stay beyond the end of the season, and I hope that happens.

“He is a very good player, and I think he wants to show everyone that. He came in January and, right from the start, he has been doing everything he can to prove himself here at Newcastle.

“I think he is doing that and I think it would be good for everybody if he could stay past the end of his deal on loan.”
