The goalkeeper has come under fire for his performances since joining AZ on loan from Newcastle United, but he kept his first clean sheet since joining against Cambuur on Thursday and then saved the crucial spot-kick which sent his side into the KNVB Cup final.
After the game, Krul said, ”What a fantastic feeling. The shootout was really tense. I believed that we also deserved to win the game with the chances that we created. We needed this result as a team to get over a difficult few weeks and hopefully it will push us to kick on again this season.
”You dream as a child to play in ”De Kuip” in the cup final and in my case I have been away from the Netherlands for such a long time.
”I needed to keep a clean sheet too for AZ Alkmaar after a few difficult games. AZ Alkmaar showed fantastic confidence to bring me back to the Netherlands and I am grateful.
”I must say during the difficult months with my injury where I thought when are things going to happen coupled with a lot of pressure too. But we deserve to play the final. My teammates have worked so hard. I am delighted we have reached the cup final ”.
