toiv aThe Swedish International’s contract is up in the summer, and talks between the player and PSV over a new deal had so far been unsuccessful.

However now PSV coach Phillip Cocu has told the Eindhoven clubs official website that they believe Toivonen will extend his contract by a year, if no transfer in January is agreed.

Cocu said, “Our expectation is that Toivonen in the winter signs for a year. Whether there should be a match for a good transfer.”

PSV technical director Marcel Brands has also stated that Toivonen has promised not to leave on a free.He added, “Ola is nearly five years at PSV, he has also been a captain here. He has expressed that he wants to contribute ideas for the sake of his club.”

Newcastle United have been strongly linked with Toivonen, and should the English side make a move in January, PSV would accept a fee for their star.

The 27-year-old started the season as back-up to the first team, but since Georginio Wijnaldum became injured, the Swede has become an important part of Cocu’s side.
