The 37-year-old was named coach of Eerste Divisie side Excelsior earlier in the year, and leaves the club sitting 7th in the table, after eight wins, nine draws, and five losses.

“I also know he is a hugely talented, passionate and enthusiastic trainer, which in our opinion, fits within our outlined profile perfectly.”

Tomasson represented, Newcastle United, AC Milan, Feyenoord, and Villarreal among others in a successful career, where he also earned 112 caps for Denmark, netting 52 times.

His career as Roda JC coach begins with a trip to Heerenveen on the 18th of January, while his first task will be to bolster his ranks in the January transfer window.
