The young Mexican arrives in Eindhoven for his first season of football in Europe, despite his tender years the attacking minded player has already made 120 first team appearances scoring 31 goals for his previous club Pachuca. He joined their youth ranks in 2009 and five years later he made his Liga MX debut against Club América, in which he scored five minutes after his substitution in the 1–0 win.
Having won the Mexican league in 2016, the attentions of Europe’s bigger clubs were naturally drawn towards the Mexico City native. Rumours of interest from English Premier League giants Manchester United persisted during the summer of 2016 but no move materialised.
A CONCACAF Champions League win in April 2017 coupled with winning the Golden Boot as the competition’s top scorer with eight goals, as well as the Best Young Player Award raised his stock even further finally producing an offer from PSV, a move to Eindhoven and a six year contract was signed this summer for this exciting talent.
Style of play
Agile with excellent ball control and plenty of speed, defenders will have the utmost trouble in dealing with this tricky winger. Quick with or without the ball and possessing a powerful and accurate shot, the young Mexican can expect to be among the goals. For a coach his versatility is a dream, capable of playing on either flank or slightly deeper centrally.
Physically and technically Lozano has more than enough qualities to make his debut season in European football a successful and rewarding one as PSV look to improve on last seasons’ third place. Playing to his potential among all the transfer speculation also shows what level headedness “Chucky” posses at such a young age, only adding to his already impressive repertoire of tools needed to make it to the very highest level.
What can we expect from Lozano this season.
Lozano’s style of play can potentially make him a fans favourite, the ability to beat players one on one, his passing range and goal scoring abilities could and should endear him to the Eindhoven faithful. A move to Europe should in no way intimidate him and we can fully expect him to hit the ground running.
