Diks made a name for himself at Vitesse Arnhem, joining the club’s academy at the age of nine before making his first team debut in 2014. After 63 appearances in Arnhem, Diks signed a five year deal with Italian side Fiorentina, who paid €3 million for the youngster last summer.
However, Diks had a difficult time in Florence, making only two appearances for the Serie A side before returning to Vitesse on loan in January. He regained his confidence back in the Netherlands and was part of the Vitesse side that lifted the KNVB trophy at the end of last season.
With no chance of first team football in Italy yet, Diks has returned to the Netherlands, but this time joining champions Feyenoord, where the 20-year-old will replace Rick Karsdorp at right-back.
Style of play
Diks is a quick and nimble full-back who loves to bomb forward down the wing to join the attack and swing in crosses. He is tall, strong and a fierce tackler, while his pace makes it difficult for opponents to shrug off or beat the youngster. Diks possesses a powerful right foot and likes to rifle shots at goal whenever the opportunity presents itself.
What to expect of Kevin Diks this season
Things haven’t worked out with Fiorentina yet, but in the Netherlands, Diks has proven himself to be a competent full back and his development will only continue with Feyenoord. For the first time he will be at a club who expect to win the title and will get the chance to shine in the Champions League. Good performances will consolidate his position in Netherlands U21 squad and possibly see him compete with Karsdorp for the full national team.
