Mount joined the Chelsea Academy at the age of six, and although he is yet to make a first team appearance for the first team, he has made a name for himself in the club’s various age groups. He won the UEFA Youth league and FA youth trophy with the U18’s while he was a regular at U23 level last season, scoring four goals and adding three assists in 21 appearances.
This summer he was part of the England U19 squad which beat Netherlands at the European Championships before going on to lift the trophy. He appeared in every game of the tournament and scored once.
Style of play
Mount is usually deployed as a number ten but can also play deeper in midfield. An excellent dribbler and passer of the ball, Mount’s technical ability is more advanced than most players at his age group, while he is also is pacey and two-footed. Comparisons are already being made with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, with Mount a regular goalscorer in the club’s academy.
What to expect from Mount this season
With Lewis Baker no longer on loan at Vitesse, Mount will look to fill the void his fellow Chelsea teammate has left behind in Arnhem. Mount’s reputation in England is growing and it will be even greater, should the midfielder have a good season with Vitesse, where he will be able to showcase his ability in the Europa League.
