At the age of twelve, Dolberg joined Danish side Silkeborg IF and after five years working through their youth ranks he made his first team debut in a league match against Brondby. Playing in a youth tournament for Denmark, Dolberg was spotted by Ajax scout John Steen Olsen and offered a trial in Amsterdam. After spending time with Ajax’s U19’s, Dolberg signed a three-year-deal in the Netherlands and impressed last season despite spending some time out due to injury.

The 18-year-old scored eight goals for the u19’s last season and this summer new Ajax boss Peter Bosz included the young striker in his pre-season squad. Dolberg immediately impressed his new coach and with Arkaduisz Milik leaving for Napoli, the Dane was picked to start the Champions League qualifier against PAOK. Dolberg made an instant impact with a goal as Ajax were held to a 1-1 draw and follows in the footsteps of greats like Marco van Basten, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Kluivert who all scored on their first team debut.

Style of play

Dolberg is an extremely talented forward who has all the capabilities of becoming a top centre-forward in the future. The youngster is hard working, strong on the ball or in the air and a deadly finisher with his right foot. Dolberg is skillful on the ball and loves to run at his opponents, while he has shown for Ajax U19’s that he is also a handy free kick taker.

What can we expect from Dolberg this season

Dolberg has already made a huge impression with an excellent performance and goal on his debut against PAOK but he is not expected to lead the line for the whole season. Peter Bosz will want to sign an experienced forward in the next few weeks to be his number nine, but Dolberg has proved he is more than capable of being the back-up despite his young age.

Kluivert, Bergkamp, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez are just a few of the strikers to make a name for themselves at Ajax and Dolberg may just be the next top forward to impress in the Amsterdam Arena.
