The young Turk started his career in the youth teams of Bursaspor before making his debut at first team level as a 16-year-old in the Europa League third round qualifier first leg against FK Vojvodina during the 2013/14 season. A few weeks later he made his Turkish Super Lig debut from the bench against Galatasaray, and scored his first goal moments later. The goal made him the youngest player to score in the Turkish league.

Unal made a total of 54 appearances for Bursaspor, scoring seven goals before Manchester City swooped to sign the striker in the summer of 2015 for €2 million. Later that month the club announced that their new signing would be joining Belgian side Genk for the season on loan. However, despite scoring twice in twelve appearances the loan deal was cancelled at the end of January and Unal instead joined NAC Breda for the rest of the season.

In the Netherlands, Unal was a hit, scoring on his debut before going on to net a further eight times in ten games. NAC Breda were hoping to extend his loan deal for this season, but instead FC Twente swooped and the 19-year-old will be plying his trade in the Eredivisie next season.

Style of play

Unal proved for NAC Breda last season that he is a deadly finisher with a powerful strike with both feet. He also has excellent ball control, first touch and pace to dribble past opponents. The forward is a threat from set pieces but needs to work on his aerial game, with Unal not utalising his height so far.

What can we expect from Unal this season?

Unal proved he could score goals in the Eerste Divisie last season but now needs to make the step up for FC Twente in the Eredivisie. The cash-strapped Enschede club are set to lose Hakim Ziyech and other key stars this summer, and they will be relying on youngsters like Unal to keep them away from the bottom half.

Unal has a big reputation in Turkey and has been tipped to be a future Manchester City star. If he can fulfill this potential for Twente over the coming season the club will have a gem on their hands.
