The winger started his career with NEC Nijmegen and made three appearances for the club during the 2014/15 season which saw the club win the Eerste Divisie and gain promotion to the Eredivisie. Joosten contract in Nijmegen expired last summer and the youngster decided against an extension to sign for Utrecht.

Joosten was originally signed for the U21 squad, but quickly impressed coach Eric ten Hag who handed the 20-year-old his league debut in a 2-1 win over PEC Zwolle in October. Joosten went on to make 19 more Eredivisie appearances and scored his first goal for the club with a stunning long-range strike against Ajax. He also became a member of the Netherland U21 squad, earning his first cap in a 1-0 win over Serbia.

Style of play

Joosten showed last season that he is an extremely confident winger, who loves to take on opponents and drive towards goal. Pace and dribbling are Joosten’s two major strength’s while he also has a rocket of a left foot. Joosten scored three goals last season, but finishing is the area he will look to improve most over next season if he is to become a key member of Utrecht’s first team.

What can we expect from Joosten this season

Joosten was untroubled by the step up from the Eerste Divisie to the Eredivisie last season and he will look to cement himself in Utrecht’s starting line-up over the next year. The club will aim to challenge for top four next season and will need Joosten to become more lethal in the final third of the pitch by adding more assists and goals to his game.
