The Premier League side have been chasing the Eredivisie top scorer for weeks and finally agreed a €22 million fee with AZ Alkmaar late last week. Janssen flew into London on Sunday for his medical and for talks on Monday and has now been confirmed as a Spurs player, signing a deal until 2020.
It wraps up an incredible year for the 22-year-old, who moved from Eerste Divisie side Almere City to AZ Alkmaar last summer before going on to make 34 Eredivisie appearances, scoring 27 goals and establishing himself in the Dutch national team.
Speaking to AZ Alkmaar’s website, Janssen said, “I’m very happy that I can make the move to Tottenham Hotspur. Fortunately the club have finally reached an agreement. I was able to shake everyone’s hand and leaving through the front door. I think it’s a good deal for all three parties. I go to a great football country, also to the Champions League there. I’ve had at AZ the best football year of my life. The people with whom I’ve worked with have been fantastic. My move to AZ’s been a good move, I just look back positively on my time in Alkmaar. ”
As an Arsenal fan, I deeply hope that he’ll score a hattrick in each match, but I also pray that he’ll lose every match 4-3.
