veltman jeManchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal were said to be scouting the 22-year-old last week, and now the Daily Mirror are reporting Tottenham have joined the race.

The newspapers states that scouts from the London club have been very impressed with the Dutchman, and have now made tentative enquiries over signing the defender. Tottenham will look to use their past deals with the Eredivisie club in signing Christian Eriksen, and Jan Verthongen to steal a march on their rivals.

However Ajax are determined to keep Veltman, and their director Marc Overmars was quoted last week saying he would barricade the doors to stop the top talent leaving the club. Contract talks have now begun between Ajax and Veltman to ensure he stays att he Amsterdam Arena for years to come.

Tottenham’s chances may have also been dented by their manager Tim Sherwood’s rant against Ajax boss Frank de Boer this week. Read more about that here.
