vlaar aston vVlaar’s contract expires in the summer, and with the 29-year-old unlikely to sign a new deal with Aston Villa there is set to be a transfer scramble in January to secure the big Dutchman’s signature.

Manchester United have been constantly linked with the centre back since ex-Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal took over at Old Trafford in the summer. The United defence is seen as their weakest link, and with Van Gaal getting the best out of Vlaar during the summer’s World Cup, the two have been linked with a reunion.

However Manchester United will now have to battle Liverpool, who according to reports on Sunday are lining up a £15 million double swoop for Aston Villa pair Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph.

Aston Villa are keen to keep Vlaar as they currently sit only five points above the relegation zone, but with the risk of him leaving for free in the summer, they may be forced to accept a nominal fee.
