Without a win all season, Twente wen’t into the match on the back of being knocked out of the Europa League, while Feyenoord fans were still celebrating their last minute win in the same competition on Thursday.
It was Feyenoord who dominated the first half and they were unlucky not to take the lead when Twente defender Darryl Lachman sliced a clearance against his own bar, and from the rebound Nick Marsman had to make a great stop from Lex Immers. Then on thirty minutes some fancy footwork from Jean Paul Boetius bamboozled Cuco Martina, who upended the winger, but Mitchell Te Vrede’s spot kick was saved by Marsman.
Twente’s first real chance came in the second half when Erwin Mulder tipped Kamohelo Mokotjo’s shot over the bar, while at the other end debutante Jens Toornstra sent a free-kick just wide.
Feyenoord finished strongly but Jordy Clasie headed just wide and Elvis Manu, the hero on Thursday night, had a late effort cleared off the line.
Its now six draws out of six matches in all competition’s for FC Twente this season, while Feyenoord remain tenth.
Feyenoord are shaping up OK considering the high profile exits so far this summer.
More sharpness up front would have had us comfortably winning this match and were it not for a poor Te Vrede penalty, the 3 points would have been ours.
Harder matches ahead, but promising signs.
