Last week’s derby win over Cambuur clearly gave Heerenveen confidence as they started the match against Twente with a swagger and after six minutes Luciano Narsingh slotted into the net after Caner Cavlan’s strike hit the post.
Twente were gifted the chance of an equaliser six minutes later when Lucas Bijker’s shoulder-barge on Thomas Agyepong resulted in a penalty, but the usually prolific Hakim Ziyech sent his low spot kick past the post.
Mitchel Te Vrede was denied by Joel Drommel on the half hour mark, but ten minutes later the 18-year-old Twente keeper failed to claim Sam Larsson’s free kick and spilled the ball to Kenny Otigba, who had an easy finish to make it 2-0.
Just after the hour mark Ziyech made up for his penalty miss to put Twente back into the game, but any chance of a comeback was ruined 15 minutes before the end when Drommel parried a shot into Joachim Andersen, who couldn’t stop the ball from crossing his own goal line.
Sam Larsson then completed the win before the end with an excellent strike into the top corner. The win lifts Heerenveen up to 11th, while Twente remain 15th.
