The hosts began the game on top and after eight minutes Kamohelo Mokotjo was brought down in the box by Philippe Sandler for a penalty, which Mateusz Klich calmly dispatched to put Twente in front.
PEC Zwolle barely threatened in the first half but on 40 minutes they equalised through ex-Twente winger Youness Mokhtar, who brilliantly finished off a swift counter-attack by firing into the top corner. The hosts were left furious by the goal with referee Dennis Higler waving away a penalty claim for handball in the lead up to the goal.
In the second half Twente laid siege to the PEC Zwolle goal with both Dylan Seys and Enes Ünal missing great early chances, and the latter also hit the post with a header. Eventually the breakthrough did come as Unal took a pass from Celina before smashing a strike into the net.
However, once again Twente couldn’t hold onto the lead and with five minutes to go Django Warmerdam fired in the equaliser. The Ajax youngsters first goal in the Eredivisie earned his side a point which moves them three points clear of the drop zone in 17th while Twente are 7th.
