The home side went on the attack from the start and took the lead on seven minutes when Enes Unal shrugged off Hector Moreno before lashing a strike into the bottom corner. That lead did not last long, though, with Jurgen Locadia curling PSV level on 15 minutes after being played through by Marco van Ginkel.
Twente were the strongest side for the rest of the first half but they failed to find the goal they deserved. Bersant Celina drew a good save from Jeroen Zoet while Joachim Andersen hit the post. Six minutes into the second half, PSV made them pay. Hector Moreno bundled the ball over the line after van Ginkel’s header down.
With fifteen minutes to go the stadium fell silent as the tannoy demanded a section of the fans to leave as police wanted to carry out an investigation. AD reported that it may be around drug trafficking.
The match continued with PSV failing to kill off Twente with Moreno heading over the bar from a corner. In the last seconds of injury time, Andres Guardado sloppily gave the ball away, leading to Celina being played through on goal and the midfielder slotted past Zoet to earn Twente a draw.
The result means PSV are now seven points adrift of the top with five games left. Their title chances are now gone while they face an uphill battle to finish second with Ajax four points ahead.
