Since Rene Hake’s dismissal two weeks ago, Verbeek has been the leading candidate to take over in Enschede and finally on Sunday night, Twente confirmed his appointment.
However, they also stated that Verbeek will have a double role at the club, with the 55-year-old not only their new head coach but also their new technical manager.
Verbeek told the Twente official website, “I’ve talked to FC Twente a number of times about a job, but it did not work for a variety of reasons. It is nice to get it now. This feature – as a trainer and technical manager – suits me.”
Verbeek started his coaching career with Heracles, before spells in charge of Heerenveen, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar. His last job was in Germany with Bochum, but he left earlier this year.
Jan de Jonge has been appointed as Verbeek’s assistant.
