bengtsson dkTwente announced the transfer on their website on Wednesday, with Rasmus Bengtsson returning to the club he left in 2006 after growing up in their academy. The 28-year-old has signed a four-year-contract at Malmo.

Bengtsson joined Twente in 2010 from Hertha Berlin, and has gone on to make 114 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals. The defenders contract was up this summer, and after announcing that it would not be renewed, Twente, who are in money troubles have allowed Bengtsson to leave for Sweden.

A statement from Bengtsson on the official Twente site said, “I have had five great years at FC Twente and I will miss the club, the fans and the atmosphere in the stadium.”

“Even outside the field I look back on a fine time. It is special for me as I return to Malmo, the city where I grew up. As a young player I started at Malmö FF. I have a special bond with the city and the club. “
