Ten-man FC Twente have slipped to 17th in the Eredivisie after a 4-0 loss at home to AZ Alkmaar.

The visitors had the lead after only ten minutes when Haris Vuckic was penalised for tripping Guus Til in the box and Alireza Jahanbakhsh netted from the penalty spot.

Before the break, Marco Bizot saved from Adam Maher and Fredrik Jensen while AZ came close to doubling their lead through Teun Koopmeiners, who forced Joel Drommel into a good stop.

Wout Weghorst sent an excellent chance wide early in the second half but it was FC Twente who took control and Joris Svensson had to clear a Vuckic effort off the line.

Just as they were threatening an equaliser, FC Twente were reduced to ten men with Cristián Cuevas seeing red for a late challenge on Joris van Overeem. Gertjan Verbeek was furious with the decision and was also sent to the stands.

AZ then run riot in the final minutes with Weghhorst making it 2-0 from a Jahanbakhsh cross before the striker got his second moments later with a strike into the top corner. Before the end, Jahanbakshsh added a fourth.

AZ close the gap on Ajax to two points, while Twente are 17th and only two points above Sparta.
