Twente may be in turmoil off the pitch, but on it they are in formidable form, and went into the tie against PEC Zwolle having won their last five home games.
However, it was the visitors who dominated in the first half with Wouter Marinus sending a looping header onto the roof of the net in the opening ten minutes. Before the break PEC Zwolle found the breakthrough with Marinus’s free kick punched away by Nick Marsman, but Dirk Marcellis found Kingsley Ehizibue with the rebound, and the midfielder slotted in.
Two minutes after the break Hakim Ziyech leveled for Twente with a wonderful curling strike into the top corner from just outside the box. Less than ten minutes later Twente had the lead with Ziyech sending Jerson Cabral free on the right, and the winger cut inside before looping a strike into the bottom corner.
Twente pushed for more goals but Ziyech could only lift the ball wide when through on goal, while at the other end Ehizibue fired a good chance to level over the bar.
Twente rise to tenth with the win, while PEC Zwolle sit 8th.
