FC Twente’s fear of relegation grew on Friday after a 2-1 defeat at local rivals Heracles Almelo.

The home side dominated the first half but couldn’t find an opening goal with Brandley Kuwas and Vincent Vermeij wasting good chances.

FC Twente barely threatened but five minutes into the second half they took the lead through Adnane Tighadouini, who latched onto a Danny Holla pass before firing past Bram Castro.

However, the lead only lasted seven minutes before Kristoffer Peterson equalised for the hosts after a great pass by Kuwas.

Fredrik Jensen missed a great chance to restore Twente’s lead before Heracles took the lead on 63 minutes. A Kuwas corner was headed into the net by Robin Propper to give the hosts a deserved lead. Adam Maher tried to clear the header on the line but couln’t prevent the ball from going in off the crossbar.

Twente couldn’t find an equaliser before the end as Heracles held on for the three points.

Heracles climb to ninth in the table while Twente remain second bottom. If Roda JC win their game with Sparta then the Tukkers will sit bottom and in the automatic relegation spot.
