Ajax’s U19’s are on the brink of reaching the knockout round of the UEFA Youth League after an 8-1 victory over AEK Athens in Greece.

John Heitinga’s side headed to Greece top of the group and clearly full of confidence. After Che Nunnely’s deflected effort had given Ajax an early lead, the Amsterdam side did not look back and were 4-0 up at the break. Nicolas Kühn scored a double either side of Nunnely’s second.

In the second half, Ajax didn’t take their foot off the gas with Victor Jensen scoring the fifth before Eric Llansana added a sixth in the 67th minute. Kühn completed his hattrick for the seventh and then Kenneth Taylor’s fierce drive made it eight.

The home side pulled one back before the end but that did not matter as Ajax sealed a comfortable victory. They are now three points ahead of both Benfica and Bayern Munich. In two weeks Ajax host Bayern in Amsterdam looking for at least a point to seal their progression.
