PSV Eindhoven’s hopes of reaching the UEFA Youth League knockout rounds are still alive after they drew 1-1 with Barcelona.

PSV started brightly but found themselves behind in the 8th minute when Anssumane Fati fired in from outside the box.

Yorbe Vertessen was handed a great chance to equalise for PSV but he was denied by Barcelona goalkeeper Arnau Tenas. The visitors could have doubled their lead before the break when Armond Obispo conceded a penalty, but Kyan van Dorp stopped the spot-kick from Jandro Orellana.

After the break, PSV dominated as they searched for an equaliser but both Mohammed Ihattaren and Zakaria Aboukhlal missed great opportunity’s. Finally with 15 minutes left, Ihattaren’s excellent backheel set Vertessen on goal and the midfielder fired PSV level.

Vertessen and Obispo should have won the game for PSV before the end but they couldn’t take their chances. Rico Zeegers was sent off late on for a second yellow card.

The draw means that PSV are now one point behind second-placed Tottenham. In two weeks, PSV must win at Inter Milan and hope that Barcelona don’t lose at home to Spurs.
