A goal and an assist by Nacer Barazite ensured Utrecht a 2-1 victory over Excelsior. 

barazite-utrThe visitors began brightly and should have been ahead in the first five minutes with Mike van Duinen getting in on goal, but the striker’s effort was well saved by Robbin Ruiter.

After the early scare Utrecht began to dominate possession but they couldn’t break the deadlock before half time with Sofyan Amrabat striking the woodwork.

A minute into the second half Utrecht found the opener as Barazite lay off was hammered into the net by Yassin Ayoub. Less than ten minutes later it was 2-0 with Barazite finding the net with a nice finish.

Utrecht continued to create chances but Richairo Zivkovic fired off target, while Sebastien Haller was denied by the post. Excelsior then gave themselves hope of a comeback as substitute Stanley Elbers pulled one back with seven minutes to go, but Utrecht held on to take the three points.

Utrecht rise to 8th in the table while Excelsior are 14th.
