Before kick off there was an emotional tribute to David di Tommaso, who died exactly 10 years ago in his sleep, with his family in the stadium to watch his former club in action.
After a non-eventful forty minutes it was Heracles who took the lead when Ilias Bel Hassani finished off a swift counter attack, and just before the break Utrecht’s first half went from bad to worse with Kevin Conboy shown his second yellow card.
However in the space of three second half minutes Nacer Barazite completely turned the game around with two fantastic goals. Firstly the striker leveled things up on the hour mark by finishing off an excellent team move, before Barazite put Utrecht ahead with a thunderous strike from a tight angle after jinking past his marker.
Utrecht’s lead only lasted ten minutes before Oussama Tannane equalised for Heracles in spectacular fashion. The winger cut in from the right hand side before sending a left footed strike into the bottom corner from outside the area.
Despite the man advantage Heracles didn’t look like finding the winning goal and the match appeared to be fizzing out to a draw. Sebastien Haller had other ideas though, with French striker putting Utrecht ahead on 84 minutes before sealing the win three minutes later.
Utrecht climb to ninth with the win, while Heracles remain fourth.
