The German, who has signed on for two years in Utrecht, is known to be a versatile midfielder, playable on both wings and in central midfield.
Ludwig came through Hoffenheim’s academy and went on to play for FC Heidenheim and 1860 München on loan. In his 28 appearances last season, he was unable to prevent Aalen being relegated from the second tier of German football.
Ludwig becomes the third arrival of the summer for Utrecht after Polish goalkeeper Filip Bednarek joined from Twente and Sebastien Haller made his move from Auxerre permanent.
