The 28-year-old was without a club since leaving Al-Shabab in the summer and had been training with Utrecht in order to earn a contract. The club have now confirmed that Boymans has returned, initially with Jong Utrecht on a “rehabilitation trajectory.”

Football Affairs Director Jordy Zuidam told the club’s website, “I stayed in contact with Ruud after he left FC Utrecht. After the dissolution of his contract, we discussed the possibility of a return of Ruud to FC Utrecht.

“It showed that we both want to do everything we can to get Ruud back to his old level. We want to help each other. What emerges from this cooperation will be the future. But one thing is certain: a fit Ruud Boymans is a very interesting player for FC Utrecht. ”

Boymans added, “I will do everything I can to become a full match again and I want to come one step closer to that goal every week. The fact that I get the chance to enter this project together with FC Utrecht is very satisfying. ”

The striker played for Utrecht between 2014 and 2016, scoring 19 times in 24 Eredivisie matches.
