Utrecht have confirmed the signing of Eljero Elia on a two-year deal.

The winger was a free agent after leaving Istanbul Basaksehir and set his sights on a return to the Netherlands.

FC Twente, Groningen and ADO Den Haag were all linked, but Utrecht has won the race to sign the 33-year-old, who signs a two-year deal.

The forward started his career with ADO Den Haag before spells with FC Twente, Hamburg, Juventus, Werder Bremen, Southampton, and Feyenoord before he joined Istanbul Basaksehir in 2017. He won the Turkish Super Lig title this season.

Elia joins Django Warmerdam, Daniel Arzani and Mimoun Mahi as the new Utrecht signings. The club is now targeting Ricky van Wolfswinkel as a new striker, according to Voetbal International.
