The versatile right-back joined Udinese from FC Twente back in 2018 but has only made 42 appearances for the club since, and found himself out of favour this season.
Ter Avest now returns to the Eredivisie with Utrecht on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Utrecht technical director Jordy Zuidam told the club’s website, “Hidde is a player with a good competition mentality, a lot of running ability and a drive forwards. Despite his age of 23, he has a lot of experience in the Eredivisie.Β At a young age he was already captain of FC Twente, which says something about his character.Β In Serie A he has become a more complete player.Β With his playing style, Hidde fits the club.Β We are happy to have him on board at FC Utrecht.”
Ter Avest is mainly a right-back but he can also be deployed in the centre of defence and midfield.
