Utrecht’s excellent start to the campaign continued on Sunday with a simple 2-0 win over Willem II.

Still on a high from their midweek victory over Zenit, Utrecht came flying out the blocks and were ahead after only two minutes with Zakaria Labyad steering the ball into the net from inside the box. Less than five minutes later it was 2-0 with Cyriel Dessers slotting into an empty net after Timon Wellenreuther denied Lukas Görtler.

Utrecht could have added to the scoreline before the break with Yassine Ayoub shooting wide, while Wellenreuther saved well from Görtler. At the other end, Willem II failed to register a single shot on goal as they struggled to deal with the confident hosts.

The second half was comfortable for the hosts who failed to add any further goals but easily dealt with Willem II’s attack. Utrecht make it two wins from two in the league and travel to Russia in midweek full of confidence.
