Utrecht has risen to seventh in the table after a slender 1-0 win at Excelsior.

Utrecht boss Henk Fraser decided to ditch the two striker system he had been using so far this season with Bas Dost starting on his own up front, while Amin Younes was handed his first start on the wing.

Excelsior dominated the opening stages, though, and Kenzo Goudmijn had a great chance but he could only fire the ball straight at Utrecht goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas.

On the half-hour mark, Utrecht had the lead with Sander van de Streek finishing off a corner. Dost then missed a big chance to make it 2-0 shortly afterwards.

Excelsior should have been level before the break but Couhaib Driouech wasted a massive opportunity to head in.

After the break, Utrecht did not give much away but the away side were lucky that a tackle from Mark van der Maarel on Mike van Duinen was not penalized with a penalty.

Utrecht are now seventh in the table with the victory, but Excelsior is sliding down the table in 11th.
