Henk Fraser’s Utrecht managed to down his former club Sparta Rotterdam 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Utrecht were without Bas Dost from the start as the experienced striker was only fit enough for the bench. Sparta lost Jonathan de Guzman in the warm-up.

After only six minutes, Daishawn Redan, in for Dost, opened the scoring for the hosts after being set up by Taylor Booth. Sparta had the ball in the net shortly afterward but Sven Mijnans effort was ruled out for a handball in the build-up.

Shortly after the break, Booth crossed for Anastasios Douvikas to head in a second for Utrecht before Sean Klaiber found the net from distance to add a third.

Joshua Kitolano netted for Sparta but his late strike was nothing but a consolation.

Utrecht is seventh in the table and one point behind Sparta.
