The 26-year-old, who stands at 6ft 7, has signed a four-year deal with Utrecht and joins fellow summer recruits Cyriel Dessers and Sander van de Streek.
Makienok joined Palermo from Brondby in 2014, but only made four league appearances for the club. He has spent time on loan with English sides Charlton Athletic and Preston North End. He also has six caps for the Danish national team.
Utrecht are also set to sign midfielder Chris David, who is a free agent after his contract with Go Ahead Eagles ran out. David is currently recovering from a long-term injury and needs to pass a medical exam before the deal can be officially announced.
