With Bruno Martins Indi pulling out of training last week with a muscle injury, and Jetro Willems suffering a knee problem during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Japan, coach Louis van Gaal was left short of defensive options.
On Sunday morning the KNVB announced that Patrick van Aanholt has been drafted into the squad, and is in contention for the game against Colombia at the Amsterdam Arena.
Its the Chelsea man’s first senior call up having represented the U21’s a number of times, and is a reward for Van Aanholt’s impressive performances for Eredivisie table toppers Vitesse Arnhem.
The left back will join his club team mate Davy Propper in Noordwijk for the 22 man training camp, and battle Ajax’s Daley Blind for a starting spot.
