Whilst the rest of the Heerenveen squad boarded a flight to Portugal for their winter camp, Eikrem was seen in Newcastle watching Cardiff City win in the FA Cup.
The Norwegian international played under new Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde, and the two are reportedly set to be reunited in the Premier League.
Heerenveen boss Marco van Basten confirmed that Eikrem will leave the club, and expressed his disappointment at the departure.
Van Basten is quoted in Leeuwarden Courant stating, ” It’s a shame he’s leaving because in the final period of the first half of the season he has been important for us,”
Eikrem only joined the Eredivisie side in the summer, with the ex-Manchester United youth making 13 league appearances for Heerenveen, scoring once.
According to Voetbal International, Heerenveen will receive double what they paid last summer for Eikrem. This means Cardiff will be paying just over £2 million for the midfielder.
