He lamented his team for giving away two cheap goals and admitted they are struggling to deal with injuries. Feyenoord were without key men Eric Botteghin, Jan-Arie van der Heijden and Nicolai Jorgensen for the trip to Italy.

Van Bronckhorst said, “We are aware that at this level individual errors decide games.

“We fought our way back into the game and unfortunately missed the penalty which was frustrating.

“I thought we had the game under control. But we gave away two presents in terms of the first two goals that we conceded tonight.

“We are struggling with injuries at the moment including many players that would normally be named in our starting lineup.

“We must evaluate in the coming days and then look ahead to our next match away against AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.

“You can never get used to losing but tonight’s result is difficult to take.”
