Van Bronckhorst stepped down as Feyenoord boss at the end of last season and has been working with Manchester City recently.
According to The Mirror, Manchester City want to appoint Van Bronckhorst as head coach of their feeder club New York City in the MLS. It would give the former Netherlands international a chance to prove he could be a successor to Pep Guardiola.
The position at New York City is available after Domenec Torrent left the club.
