Feyenoord were expected to seal the Eredivisie championship on Sunday but were instead hammered 3-0 by Excelsior and are now just one point above Ajax going into the final round of fixtures next weekend.

Van Bronckhorst said, ”We did not win and are therefore not champions today. We had difficulty in the game today and we could not meet the expectations.

”We gave Excelsior Rotterdam too much room. We did not play as we normally do today. We have to process this defeat and move on.

”We have to now work towards our game against Heracles Almelo next Sunday and we know that if we win that game we are champions.

”My message to Feyenoord supporters and to Rotterdam is that we are all disappointed with how things went today. We must go for it next weekend and we need everyone to be able to do it. We know that today is a setback. But we must become champions next Sunday.”
