Feyenoord need to win the match on Sunday to make sure they are champions of the Eredivisie, with Ajax only one point behind them going into their tie with Willem II.

van Bronckhorst said, ”We can be proud that we have a Dutch team in a European final . It’s been many years since that last happened.

”What Ajax have achieved has no influence on us. We are focused on winning the title and we know that if we win at home on Sunday against Heracles Almelo that we are champions of the Netherlands.

”Last weekend against Excelsior Rotterdam was insufficient and it will be different this Sunday in our own stadium and on our own pitch. We know that with one more victory we will be champions and we would have signed for that at the start of the season.

”It is difficult to explain what went wrong last Sunday against Excelsior and we are not looking for excuses. We have to adapt to the circumstances that we find ourselves in.

”The message to all players and fans is that we have the chance to be champions on Sunday after many years and that means extra attention from the media about the environment that we find ourselves in. If we can do what is expected of us. I believe that we will finish the season on a positive note.”
